Obituary

Forever in our hearts

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Mother/Abuela. Azucena, age 89, passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones June 16th, 2020. Born in Montevideo, Uruguay to Paulino and Manuela Martinez. She married her soul mate, Angel Antonio Belardo in 1946, who preceded her death in 1983. Azucena was a loving mother to her four children, Daniel (Monny), Alejandra (Jimmy), Gabriela (Alberto) and Maria (Chris). Devoted and Caring Abuela to Flavia, Johnathan, Samantha, Alejandro, Victor, Christopher, Angela, Jessica, Sierra and Brandon. Great Grandmother to Joshua, Hailey, Aiden, Jazmin and Lincoln.

Our Mom/Abuela had a passion for music, having played and taught piano and violin in her younger years. She was also a talented cook and always had a feast ready for whomever showed up. We will miss her pascualina, empanadas, matambre and medialunas. She spent most of her adult work life in this field and was known as “Mama” to many at Stage West Theatre Restaurant. She was the life of the party and often the last one to leave the dance floor especially if Candombe was playing. She made friends everywhere she went (even the bus stop, true story). She lit up any room she walked into with her infectious smile, confidence and warm heart. She had a large beloved group of friends across different countries which she valued and shared many amazing memories with. Her phone never stopped ringing as someone would always call to say Hello. She was fun to be around, positive, supportive, young at heart and most importantly loved you wholeheartedly and unconditionally. Family was her priority as she dedicated her entire life to her children and grandchildren who were her pride and joy. Everyone always looked forward to visiting Abuela as she was just as excited to see them while sipping on her Mate. She cherished her extended family in Buenos Aries, Montevideo and New Jersey. She had so much love for everyone and kept them close to her heart. Our Mom/Abuela was a strong, determined and fiercely independent woman. Who proved her strength when she moved to a new country to provide a better life for her remaining children after loosing her husband. She will be dearly missed and forever in our hearts.

A celebration of life service will be held at McKersie Kocher Funeral Home 114 Main St. E. Milton 905-878-4452 on Saturday, July 18th, 2020. Due to the pandemic and the limitations, the Celebration of Life will be by invitation only as we are limited to the number of guests allowed.
