In loving memory of David Martin Gray, born January 18, 1937 in Balmullo, Fife, Scotland who departed unexpectedly on August 4, 2020 at Milton District Hospital, Milton, Ontario, Canada.
David is survived by his loving wife, Avril Hanson, of Milton; together they spent many an hour dancing, laughing and gardening. He will be dreadfully missed by his children Jennifer Leonard and partner Garth, of Sutton, and Martyn Gray and wife Joyce of Courtice, and his stepchildren Stephen Hanson and wife Gillian, of Montreal, and Sonia Bilton and husband Duane, of Milton.
David’s adoring grandchildren will forever miss his willingness to play and laugh and those amazing bear hugs: Sarah Hanson-Reginiano and husband Tal, Rachel Hanson and husband Kevin, Megan Hanson-Sapla and husband Ivan, James Hanson and partner Rebecca, Holly Bilton and husband Mike, Katie Bilton and husband Mark, Kyle Bilton and partner Percious, Andrew Leonard and wife Ashley, Scott Leonard and partner Emily, Kelsey Leonard and partner Matt, and Blair Gray and partner Stacey. David also leaves behind ten great-grandchildren who made his eyes sparkle: John; Lochlan; RJ; Carter; Luca; Olivia; Kennedy; Olivia; Oaklyn, and Penny.
David’s sister in-law, Valerie Wood, of England, will miss their frequent discussions and singing Scottish ditties; oh the laughs they had about “Let the wind blow high, let the wind blow low…”
David was a true gentleman who had an infectious smile and loved nothing better than a good chat and a wee dram. He was actively involved with St. David’s Presbyterian Church in Campbellville, and took his golf game seriously (this was a man who played at St. Andrews), as any good Scotsman should – this applied to mini-putt too! David was a true Leafs fan and cheered along with every Raptors shot. All who knew him will miss him greatly.
Family and friends are invited to gather at the McKersie-Kocher Funeral Home 114 Main St. E. Milton 905-878-4452 on Monday, August 10, 2020 from 2 pm to 4 pm and 7 pm to 9 pm. A private funeral service will take place at St. David's Presbyterian Church in Campbellville.
As an expression of sympathy, memorial donations to the Canadian Cancer Society, Heart and Stroke Foundation, Milton District Hospital Foundation or St. David's Presbyterian Church would be appreciated.
Until we meet again, David, may you rest in peace held gently in the lord’s loving hand…
Miss Me, But Let Me Go
When I come to the end of the road
When the sun has set for me
I want no rites in a gloom-filled room
Why cry for a soul set free
Miss me a little, but not too long
Remember the love we once shared
Miss me, but let me go
For this is a journey we all must take
And each must go alone
It’s all part of the masters plan
A step on the road home
When you are lonely and sick at heart
Go to the friends we knew
Busy your sorrow in doing good deed
Miss me, but let me go
