It is with heavy hearts that the family of John Chrysostom (Chris) Gillis announce his sudden and unexpected passing at the age of 66 on Thursday, December 27, 2018 at home. Chris is survived by his loving wife Branka. He will be sadly missed by his children Kristin and Brian (Kristen), and by Branka’s children Peter (Diane) and John (Claire). Dear Papa to Neven, Ethan, Roman and Olivia. Grandpa to Sheena Rose. Also mourning his loss are his siblings Gerald Gillis (Pauline), Winston Gillis (Debbie), Marie Bilof (Harry), Sheila McDermott (Jim), Neil Gillis, Florence Gillis, Mike (Mely) Gillis and Roy Gillis. Uncle Chris will be missed by many nieces and nephews. Chris is predeceased by his first wife Rosalie (née DiRisio), his parents Duncan Gillis Sr. and Olive Marie( née MacPherson) and by his brother, Duncan Gillis Jr (Letricia.) A long time teacher, Chris will be remembered by many students at York Catholic District School Board. He and Branka had recently moved to Guelph to be near their grandchildren but were previously longtime residents of Milton where they were devoted members of Holy Rosary Catholic Church and Third Order Heralds of the Gospel. Visitation will take place at McKersie-Kocher Funeral Home on December 30, 2018, from to 5pm to 9pm. A mass of Catholic burial will take place at Milton’s Holy Rosary Catholic church on December 31, 2018, at 12.30pm, followed by interment in Assumption Catholic Cemetery in Mississauga.
