passed away peacefully on June 30th, 2020 in her 87th year after a brave battle with Alzheimer’s. Jean was born to Henry Fredrick Abraham and Leonora Conception Rego on October 6th, 1933 in Georgetown, British Guiana (now Guyana, South America). She is survived by her loving husband of sixty-seven years Julian Fisher whose final parting words to her were “Goodbye my darling.” Jean is pre-deceased by daughter Christine (Ted) Biggs and survived by her daughter Julie (Thomas) Mascarin, and son John (Catherine) Fisher. She is loved and will be missed by her six grandchildren Mikayla, Crystal, Melanie, Justin, Shawn, and Benjamin and five great grandchildren.

Jean will be missed by her sisters Yvonne Fisher, Connie Smith, Eileen Trotter and Pamela Drawbell, and now reunited with her pre-deceased siblings Harold Abraham, Steve Abraham, Richard Abraham, and Dian Moses. Jean will be lovingly remembered by all her nieces and nephews around the world and here in Canada.

Jean will always be remembered for her generous spirit towards everyone including strangers, her infectious laughter and beautiful smile even to the end, her joyous heart, shrill whistle, always classy dressing style, polished nails, and as a wonderful dancer. She was an accomplished seamstress with incredible skills for designing and creating dresses from scratch for every occasion, reupholstering furniture, setting up new homes, and taking on just about any decorating need for family and friends. She embraced any challenge with joyful enthusiasm if it made others happy. She was a truly beautiful person both inside and out.

In honour of Mary Jean Fisher there will be a memorial Mass held at Holy Rosary Catholic Church 139 Martin St. Milton, Ontario on Tuesday, July 7th, 2020 at 11:00 AM. Jean will be interned at Holy Family Catholic Cemetery following the memorial Mass.

Please send all flowers to the funeral home prior to the service at McKersie-Kocher Funeral Home, 114 Main St, Milton, Ontario, Canada, L9T 1N5 instead of to the Holy Rosary Catholic Church. In lieu of flowers, the family encourages memorial donations to the Alzheimer Society of Canada or to the Complex Transitional Care Department at the Milton District Hospital who took such loving care of Jean during her final days

My eulogy to my beautiful mother who will forever be loved and cherished in our hearts.

God is Gracious. The meaning of the name “Jean” means exactly that - God is Gracious and yes he was as he blessed us with this amazing woman.

Jean also known to my brother and I as mom, was the epitome of life and how life should be lived. She was vivacious, full of energy, willing to try anything whether it be making her own wedding gown, tiling a bathroom, fixing a rusty hole in a car, helping to pack and move people, making curtains for friends, covering couches, sewing dresses for girlfriends and sometimes having that dress cut and made ready within 3 hours and at a few days notice, flying to Trinidad and rolling up her sleeves to organize a wedding for her friend’s daughter and having everything in place and ready to go.

Mom and dad were married for 67 years and she never ceased to amaze dad with anything she put her mind to. They had a great life, they travelled, sang together and when it came to dancing...many a time they cleared the floor as they danced as if as one. They always had friends over, entertained and their home was always open to anyone of their friends that needed somewhere to stay. As a couple they were perfect together.

Mom did not know the meaning of “ No...or I can’t “. She never said no to anyone who needed help in any way and even if they didn’t ask for help, she would find a way to surprise them with her kind and thoughtful gestures. There are so many stories of how she touched each and everyone she knew with kindness and love and I’m sure today many of you here can vouch for her amazing gift of life, love and laughter. Jean loved music, dancing, singing and sometimes out of tune whistling to whatever song it was.

When Alzheimer’s took her from her home into memory care....even there the caregivers praised her. They said she was a joy to be around, always laughing, singing, clapping, would do the occasional dance and then there was the whistling. They loved her there.

Just a woman of so much vitality and love of life and people....that yes her name suited her - God is gracious...and we were very blessed with this woman who loved with all her heart. A beautiful, caring soul who will be sadly missed by all who were blessed to call her Wife, Sister, Mother, Aunt, Grandmother, great Grandmother and Friend.
