Obituary for Vilma Furik

Vilma joined her husband Steve to celebrate 74 years together, her parents Stephan & Mari Hanes, sister Mary & Peter (Korchuska), grandson Kyle and many family members from Slovakia and Canada. A great person and more importantly a super mom, will be remembered fondly by daughter Judy Capancini (Wayne), son Ron (Chris McAdam), (Helen), and grandchildren Ryne, Lindsey, Lauren, Marina, Laura Jane (Trevor van Arrgon) and great-granddaughters Keira & Kaelyn. Born in Slovakia, her family moved to Fort William (Thunder Bay) in 1937. She was called to work for the Canadian government at the Canada-Car war plant, manufacturing parts for the Hurrican Hopper during WWII. Married in 1947, Vilma and Steve moved to Toronto looking for better job opportunities. They moved to Milton in 1979 where they retired for their many enjoyable years, but Fort William always remained in their hearts. Vilma stayed home to care for her precious children and took on part time work in the early 70's as a Clerk/Bookkeeper at the old Eaton's store. She provided care for her mother, father, sister, and brother-in-law, and was really excited about seeing and being with her grandchildren. They have many fond and happy, fun memories with their grandparents. Vilma died peacefully at her home at Allendale long term care facility. She was a strong, caring woman, and had a great sense of humour. She lived a good life and died on her own terms. To the staff at Allendale, you were all special to our mom and dad, a big shout out of thanks from all of us for providing care, support, and love to both of them. A special thank you to McKersie-Kocher Funeral Home for your continued support for the Furik family. You make it comfortable at a difficult time. Donations in Vilma's memory can be made to the Willow Foundation - Allendale directly through the funeral home.
A family cemetery service was held by immediate family members and a celebration of life will be held in June, the world willing. She will be missed by all her family and many special friends. You were a Great Wife, a Proud Mother, and a special Mother to us all. We will miss you Mom.
